These are a few excellent/random under-appreciated albums from my listening experience in the past 15-20 years.
I’ve provided a sample track from each record. In the future, I’ll try to post more lists like this, time permitting.
11. Succubus, the Mount Fuji Doomjazz Corporation (2009)
10. Queen of the Meadow, Elysian Fields (2001)
9. what is?!, King Khan and the Shrines (2007)
8. The Kilimanjaro Darkjazz Ensemble, the Kilimanjaro Darkjazz Ensemble (2006)
7. How I Loved You, the Angels of Light (2001)
6. The Gift, John Zorn (2001)
5. Virginal Co-ordinates, Eyvind Kang (2004)
4. Sorry in Pig Minor, the Cows (1998)
3. Stag, Melvins (1996)
2. Red Line, Trans Am (2000)
1. The Lost Trident Sessions, Mahavishnu Orchestra (1973 via 1999)
This one was actually recorded in ’73 but not released until 1999. The song below contains a guitar solo by John McLaughlin that could easily be described as “epic.”
